Coming from a family of entrepreneurs and creators, Ashlea was born and raised to love the arts. She began her design and marketing journey in Vancouver, BC at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) studying in the School of Business, Marketing Management and subsequently attended BCIT for Communications and New Media Design, where she graduated with distinction at both institutions.
After completion of her new media studies, Ashlea was called upon through her motion graphics demo reel and portfolio for CityTV's CityPulse News and Breakfast Television. Although motion graphics was her initial interest, she quickly became immersed into the web and print world. She has worked in advertising and marketing agencies and large corporate in-house agencies. Her advertising and design experience ranges from account management, creative direction and graphic design of brand identities, editorial design, web and mobile interface design, online marketing campaigns, packaging design, and exhibition designs. Clients included Nike, Proctor & Gamble, BC Lotteries, Forestry Innovation Investment, Gold Corp., Canadian Securities Exchange, and many other companies from local to international clients.
Currently, Ashlea is also devoted to teaching digital media design and has great passion for helping students explore the things they love. She balances her design business by contributing to the design community as an instructor for Vancouver Community College (VCC) and British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
Holding a Master of Education (M.Ed) degree in Curriculum & Instruction specializing Digital Design and with her combined experience as a designer, business professional, and as an educator, preparing students for a complex profession with its
combinations of skill and knowledge, innovation and strategy,
and creativity and communication, she believes it is apparent that the challenge of ensuring curricula and instruction today will meet the needs of the future. Ashlea played an integral role in assisting in the research and development of VCC’s very first Diploma degree program for Digital Media Design, which included planning and governance, course development, curriculum writing, facilitation and program promotion.
As an Adobe Certified Instructor and she is an accredited member of the Adobe Education Exchange and a long-standing member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada where she was VP Education for the National Board 2016-2018 and Web Communications Chair for the BC Chapter from 2009-2010.
